What we do

Research

Through our national research Avanté has made a significant contribution to the development of social policy. We have taken fresh approaches to gathering and analysing data and have been delighted when the findings of our research has informed shifts in policy and practice.

The design of research that we undertake includes both quantitative and qualitative methodologies and we use a mixture of tools and approaches to gather, analyse and present information. Solidly triangulated data secures confidence in the findings and makes sense of the conclusions and if required, the recommendations. We encourage clients to feel comfortable try new methods. The most appropriate methods are selected when the relevant stakeholders and questions are identified.

The methods that we employ include:

  • Participatory appraisal
  • Storydialogue
  • Video and stills photography
  • Arts – visual, movement, music and drama
  • Action enquiry
  • Action learning
  • Appreciative enquiry
  • Interviews face-to-face and in-person
  • Focus groups
  • IT blogs and other ICT methods
  • Workshops
  • Open Space and other large group processes
  • Learning histories
